What is acrylic paint.
Acrylic paint is a fast-drying paint that is made for pigment that is suspended in the acrylic polymer emulsion and plasticizers, silicone oils, defoamers, stabilizers, metal soaps. All acrylic paints are water-soluble but do become water-resistant once they are completely dry. Defendant on how much of the paint is diluted with water, or modified with acrylic gels, mediums or pastes, the finished painting can resemble a watercolor, oil painting or even a gouache. Some of the acrylic paintings even have their own unique characteristics that are not attainable in other media.
The noted Dr Otto Karl Julius Rohm was one of the founders and longtime president of the Rohn and Haas chemical company which became later in the USA the Rohn and Haas (today Dow Chemical) and in Germany the Rohn GmbH (Today Evonik Degussa).
Dr Rohm completed his studies in 1901 at Tubingen (University town in central Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany), with a dissertation in chemistry on “Polymerisation products of the acrylic acid”.
He invested acrylic resin, which was quickly transferred into acrylic paint. As early as 1934, the first usable acrylic resin dispersion was developed by the German chemical company BASF, which was patented by Rohn and Haas.
